The next 2 weeks we will be travelling the Warwickshire Ring. Thanks to Andy and Derek we are able to keep a weblog diary of our holiday.
We started off very early this morning. The alarm clocks were set to wake us up at 4 am. We arrived in London around 11.30 and started the next leg of the journey. We went by Heathrow Express into London to get to Paddington Station. Jumped aboard a train going to Leamington Spa. We had to change trains at Reading. We were quite tired upon getting to Leamington Spa especially as both the trains were full and we didn’t get a seat on the way. Imagine 7 people travelling together (4 adults and 3 children) with loads of suitcases standing in the corridor of the train. The one and half hour travel was making us quite tired. When arriving in Leamington Spa we found a taxi in front of the station that took us to our destination at Wigrams Turn Marina. This time we hired a narrowboat for 2 weeks from a boat company called The Black Prince. We were taken to our boat “Francesca” that will be our home for the next 2 weeks.
Runar found a birthdaycake and a bouquet of flowers waiting for him as we entered the boat. It was his 50th birthday and the boating company had left this surprise for him. We unpacked most of our things and got a quick instructions on the boat and then we set off. The weather was cloudy and the rain wasn’t very far off as we set off. We went through our first set of locks at Calcutt Locks.
Late in the afternoon we stopped at a lovely little pub called The Boat Inn. There we all had a lovely birthday meal and returned to the boat full and tired and went straight to bed after a very busy day.
